100 things about me (besides "Technology-challenged"

December 4, 2007

Gail Glover's 100 Things (Ready or Not)

  1. I'm the world's most boring person, so if you're sleepy already, don't read on . . .
  2. I was born of goodly parents -- the goodliest!
  3. I grew up in the mission field of Billings, Montana.
  4. I lived in fear of marrying a non-member, since there were so few LDS boys around.
Not marrying a non-member turned out to be easy, since I hardly dated at all in high school.
  5. I was a mediocre student in elementary school.
  6. I was a terrible student in jr. high school.
  7. I over-achieved academically in high school, so that I could get a scholarship to get out of town.
  8. I was an officer in Z-Club and Forensics Club in high school, and I was in student government at BYU, as well as an officer in Shomrah Kiyel.
  9. My specialty was debate -- this from someone who hates arguments.
  10. I was offered 4 scholarships upon high school graduation.
  11. I started college at BYU one day after high school graduation.
  12. I met my future mate at BYU about a month later. I had to introduce myself; he didn't even know I existed until then.
  13. I loved, loved, loved attending BYU.
  14. The first time I ever saw Worthy Glover, he was bearing his testimony, and I was so impressed, I said to my roommates, "Whoever marries him will be truly blessed!"
  15. The first meals I ever cooked for my eternal companion were 100% inedible, but he didn't complain, and he ate them anyway.
  16. I am NOT a great cook.
  17. I am a terrible baker, but Mrs. Rhodes occasionally makes me look good.
  18. I can fix "comfort food" (and lots of it!)that most people seem to enjoy.
  19. When I was a child I had a heavy garden rake brought down hard across my face, and I had to have stitches across the bridge of my nose. I still have the scar.
  20. I was once punished for stealing dimes from my mother's purse when I was about 6 years old.
  21. I NEVER stole any dimes from my mother's purse, but I know who did. (Maybe that's why I got punished.)
  22. I played the viola in the junior high and high school orchestras. I could not now play a note on that instrument if I was paid a million bucks, but I learned to appreciate music.
  23. I can only sing the melody on songs, because I can't hear the other parts.
  24. I am totally, irrationally scared of the dark!
  25. I appreciate fine art, good music, beautiful architecture, and welll-written literature.
  26. I have had little-to-no formal training in how to understand the cultural arts.
  27. I literally cannot see color, perspective, depth, and line to know how to create art.
  28. If I have specific step-by-step instructions, I can make a decent quilt.
  29. I am fascinated with quilting, and adore the process of making something out of fabric.
  30. At one time I made most of my own clothing.
  31. I learned to sew from my mother and from jr. high home ec. class, just as my own children were taught to sew in middle school.
  32. I learned to love quilts from my paternal grandmother.
  33. I am self-taught in quilting techniques.
  34. Someday, I am going to take a basic quilting class, so that I can unlearn some bad habits.
  35. I have made and used a hectograph. (Go ahead and figure that one out; I dare you!)
  36. I have enough hair for 3 or 4 people (not length -- thickness).
  37. I had extremely crooked teeth all my life and didn't have braces until I was in my mid-thirties.
  38. I used to love to clothes-shop. When I was a size 5, it was fun.
  39. It's depresssing to clothes-shop now, and I won't admit my size anymore.
  40. My sense of direction is non-existent.
  41. I am afraid of getting lost in unfamiliar places.
  42. Nothing about NYC scares me. I don't worry about getting lost or being out late at night.
  43. I have high blood pressure and low cholesterol. Go figure!
  44. I always wanted to go on an LDS mission.
  45. I did not go on a mission, because I didn't want my fiance to have to wait for me.
  46. I fully trusted my fiance to wait for me, but I didn't trust the BYU girls to leave him alone.
  47. There were 650 students in my high school senior class.
  48. Four (4) of the students in my high school senior class were LDS, counting me.
  49. I DO have a favorite child- just as you all suspected.
  50. How could my favorite child be anyone other than my beloved eldest son, who was and is everything I could ever hope he would be?! What a thrill to bring WWII into the world and watch his progress through the years! His natural leadership abilities and sense of humor are gifts from God, and they are talents I wish I could emulate.
  51. My favorite color is yellow.
  52. I look terrible in yellow.
  53. I have never liked the color red, largely because it's everybody else's favorite.
  54. I look good in red.
  55. I want fireworks and bagpipes at my funeral.
  56. I love wild birds.
  57. My favorite child is absolutely my talented, lovely, feminine little daughter MariAnell. She has gone beyond all expectations for intelligence, artistic talent, and Gospel strength! How can such a petite little person be such a powerhouse of friendship and faith?
  58. I have visited Northern and Southern California, New Orleans, Louisville, Seattle, Washington, DC, New York City, Hawaii, most all the states in between, Canada, Mexico, Dallas, Denver, Reno, Las Vegas, and New Jersey. . . and Madrid & Barcelona, Spain; and Paris France.

  63. I never want to go back to Paris!
  64. Therefore, I need to go back to Paris!
  65. If Kathrina is not my favorite child, then I don't know who is. She is a unique spirit who was sent to earth with incredible beauty, brains, and empathy. She makes so many special efforts to reach her potential, it's amazing! She is constantly on a learning quest and has open-minded acceptance for all people and ideas.
  66. I think my children and I were foreordained to be together on earth and for eternity!
  67. I can understand written Spanish, but I have a hard time with spoken Spanish.
  68. I love people-watching.
  69. Because of that, I don't mind airport delays.
  70. Train travel is calming, comforting, and peaceful for me.
  71. Without a doubt, Chrislynn is my favorite. Who wouldn't love her? She is an amazing daughter, wife, mother, and domestic goddess. Her decorating talents are incredible, and I am so luckly that a spirit of her great wisdom and loveliness chose to come to earth through me.
  72. It's true -- I live my life vicariously through my children. Keep doing fun things, you guys!
  73. About Paris -- it's stamped twice in my passport, and I didn't even want to be there once.
  74. So you thought Drew was my favorite, right? It's true. His intelligence and versatility are everything I ever wished for, but didn't think I would ever witness, let alone give birth to. He is incredibly brave in his choices of how to use his talents, and bless the lives of others. He continues serving the Lord as a missionary and great example wherever he goes.
  75. I try to be honest in all my dealings with my fellow-men.
In trying to be honest in all my dealings, I have been slandered, libeled, back-stabbed, and deceived.
  76. I still have basic faith in mankind.
  77. The baby of the family is every mother's favorite, and I'm no exception. Tim is our peacemaker and our athlete. I admire everything about him. He works so hard to set goals and reach them that he's an inspiration to me. His compassion and caring for his loved ones help us all through our tough times.
  78. I am the luckiest mother in the world.

  85. My heart smiles when I think of my family members.
  86. I went to work originally because I wanted to make a contribution to the world. Money was secondary, but it quickly became essential.
  87. If I had to choose between a vacation in New York and a vacation in Hawaii, forget the swimsuit; Broadway, here I come!
  88. I LOVE each of my children's choices of mates. I feel truly blessed to have added such wonderful spirits to our family group.
  89. I am a very private person.
  90. I am also a very proud person -- proud of my family!
  91. My testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ continues to strengthen and grow through challenges and personal trials.
  92. I want to be liked by everyone, always!
  93. Therefore, I am frequently disappointed.
  94. I am a good proof-reader.

  97. I hope to be able to endure to the end.

  100. I am happy with my life.
